G7 Alliance for Resource Efficiency

G7 Alliance for Resource Efficiency
The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) invite to the Inaugural event of the G7 Alliance for Resource Efficiency 2 October 2015, Berlin / Germany at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).

Protecting our natural resources and using them efficiently is key to sustainable development, industrial competitiveness, economic growth and employment, and to protecting our environment, the climate, and our planet.

The scale at which natural resources are currently being used and waste is being generated across the globe is unprecedented. Even though the link between economic growth and the use of natural resources has been broken, this is not enough to compensate for the growth of the global population to a projected figure of over 9 billion people by 2050 and for the fast growth rates of emerging economies, which continue to fuel demand. If we fail to use natural resources sustainably and to avoid destroying the environment, this will also put our economies at risk of rising material costs, and of disruption in the supply chain. It is therefore essential that we focus on making use of resources and materials more efficiently and sustainablly – across their entire life cycle. This will help us protect our environment and climate, safeguard jobs and social security, and allow for sustainable growth.

For the first time, the G7 under Germany’s presidency has made resource efficiency a priority. At their summit at Schloss Elmau on 7 and 8 June 2015, the heads of state and government took several forward-looking decisions: they committed to taking ambitious measures to improve resource efficiency, and established the new G7 Alliance on Resource Efficiency, a platform that can be used on a voluntary basis for the purposes of sharing knowledge and networking.

The Alliance has been designed to serve as a permanent forum that allows the G7 partners and the relevant stakeholders from the business and research communities and civil society to share best practice examples and experiences, and to establish information networks. The fact that well-known business initiatives are also involved in the platform will help promote innovation in the field of resource efficiency.

We warmly invite you to participate in this important event. Please note that the conference language is English.
